Right in the Heart of Havana, under the bridge on the Almendares River, a new cultural space has opened. It began when the band Sin Palabras was first looking for a place to rehears. A year passed, and with a lot of work and several equipments acquisition, the garage like installation became Sin Palabras’ Studio. Being there while rehearsing is deep experience. In an atmosphere of pure live powerful two hours sound, a lot of smoke and habitual visitors, you can witness the boldest project in Cuban music of the last decade. The members of the band have began to take fully advantages of the installation facilities, and every morning several young Djs gather under the guidance of Dj Mandy, who has gained a deal of a reputation, first as a Dj of one of the major discos in Havana, and now as a mentor for all those youngsters willing to fill the Havana techno-scene with their mixes. As well as Dj Mandy, another member has created a workshop of Cuban percussion. Jose Eladio “El Teacher” is extending his knowledges to a variety of students, from children to adults, as to local residents as well as international. Also Sin Palabras’ studio is well known in Havana for its great parties, where is no surprise to watch them play for their friends. There is no doubt on how Sin Palabras has managed to gain such popularity among the artists community, but check this out! Their studio has also become a non-profit art gallery. In the lobby of the studio and even inside of it, the work of art of several contemporary artists and photographers are on display. So gradually, thanks to the openness of the band, the studio has been defining as a space for culture, where music, visual arts, friends and parties come altogether in a blender like mood. Well, “mix” is a techno concept in the first place. |
